What is Software Engineering?

Software Engineering is an the systematic, regular and measurable application of the software product to the identification, design, development and maintenance phases. In the light of developing technologies, one of the important needs of the information age is the need to implement complex software projects. This need requires software development work to be carried out in teams. In order to ensure the sustainability of large software projects, it is important to document the requirements analysis, product design and product maintenance processes in accordance with the quality standards, apart from coding the product. It is inevitable that software development work will be carried out in the light of Software Engineering processes.

What is the Difference from the Computer Engineering Department?

Rapid development of technology requires specialization in engineering. Programs with Electrical Engineering at the beginning of the 20th century then continued as Electrical and Electronics Engineering with the emergence of electronic products, and later, with the introduction of computers, began to add the word Computer to the program names. As software is an important part of our daily life, it is inevitable that software is a specialty and Software Engineering departments are starting to open. Today, while Computer Engineering processes the design and development of hardware, software and communication networks, Software Engineering offers expertise in designing and developing software products.

What are the Fields of Study?

The Software Engineering department, which is planned to operate in a wide variety of current issues, will stand out as a department that supports the development of related scientific activities in software process design, software test engineering, software architectures, game technologies, virtual reality and test-quality issues, and thus the development of technology.

With the Software Engineering Undergraduate program, it is planned to train engineers who can work in the software production line. The main purpose of this program is to train engineers who can work in software companies in Ankara (R&D companies in the centers where software technologies are produced such as METU, Hacettepe TEKNOKENT and TEKMER, and centers that serve and produce in the software sector), the capital of science and defense industry, and who can contribute to the research and development activities carried out in these institutions.
